Meitheal Sessions @ The Peace Maze

Join us for a hands-on Meitheal Session to help protect this unique heritage asset. We will be removing invasive species that threaten the health of the yew hedges, ensuring the maze continues to thrive for generations to come.
Whether you are a regular volunteer or visiting for the first time, your contribution will help preserve a landmark that belongs to us all. Come along, get your hands dirty, meet like-minded people, and play your part in safeguarding the legacy of the Peace Maze. Hospitality provided!

Together, let’s save the yews and protect this symbol of peace.
Preparing for the 25th Anniversary: The Castlewellan Peace Maze is one of the world’s largest permanent hedge mazes, created as a symbol of the path towards a peaceful future for Northern Ireland. Planned in 1998, planted in 2000, and officially opened in 2001, the maze was designed by landscape architect Beverly Lear with input from almost 4,000 schoolchildren, fostering a sense of shared ownership and hope for future generations.
Comprising 6,000 yew trees planted by people from communities across Northern Ireland, the maze covers 2.7 acres and features over two miles of hedge. More than just a visitor attraction, it is a living monument to cooperation, reconciliation, and community spirit.
