South Down Repair Café

Fix It, Don’t Ditch It!

The South Down Repair Café offers a chance to breathe new life into broken or worn-out items instead of tossing them away.

Our upcoming repair events will take place throughout the year, welcoming everyone to bring one item in need of repair. Skilled volunteers will be on hand to help with textiles, electrical items, mechanical repairs, tool sharpening, clocks, and sewing machines – all for free!

How It Works

Bring along one item in need of repair, and our expert volunteers will assess and attempt to fix it. Whether it’s a faulty kettle, a jammed sewing machine, or a much-loved jacket in need of stitching, we’ll do our best to help! While we can’t guarantee every item will be fixed, we aim to share knowledge and solutions wherever possible.

Join Us & Be Part of the Repair Revolution! No booking required – just turn up on the day with your item. If you have repair skills and would like to volunteer, we’d love to hear from you!

The Benefits of Fixing Over Replacing

In a world where throwaway culture is the norm, the South Down Repair Café offers a sustainable and cost-effective alternative. Repairing instead of replacing:

  • Reduces waste – Fewer items end up in landfills, cutting down on environmental harm.
  • Saves money – Repairing an item costs far less than buying new.
  • Builds community skills – Learn how to mend, maintain, and extend the life of household items.
  • Cuts carbon emissions – Manufacturing new products requires energy and resources, while repairing reduces demand on the planet.
