The launch marks the final stage of the Network’s work in partnership with Action Renewables. Project lead Michael Donnelly described the event as “an exciting milestone” for the community. “It’s been a real community effort,” he said. “We’ve listened to residents, businesses, schools and local organisations, and we’re incredibly grateful for the support and insight people have shared. It’s fantastic to see all that work come together.”
Michael emphasised that the Master Plan represents more than just research findings.
“What we’re unveiling is more than a report — it’s a practical, ambitious roadmap for locally owned renewable energy. The plan shows we have real potential to cut energy costs, reduce reliance on oil, and keep energy profits within our own community through a community-owned solar programme.”
Potential local partners — including businesses, schools and community buildings — have already been identified, signalling that the project is moving from concept to opportunity. “This is no longer just an idea,” Michael added. “It’s a chance to build an income-generating energy project that delivers long-term savings and reinvestment back into the area. This is about cleaner power, stronger resilience, and real economic benefit owned and driven by the community itself.”
On the night, attendees can expect an overview of the Energy Master Plan, key technical findings, insights into local energy use, and an outline of the practical steps required to develop a viable grid-scale community energy project. There will also be opportunities for residents to express interest in becoming involved as participants or investors.
