Join the Dolmen’s Climate Action Network and Action Renewables for a free workshop helping you understand your home’s energy potential. The team will be hosting an interactive session on how to make your home warmer and more energy-efficient at the Newcastle Community Cinema on Thursday 29 January from 7.30 – 8:30pm
The workshop is designed to help local homeowners take their next step towards a warmer, more efficient home. Specifically designed for those who received a free Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) and home energy audit through the project to date and members of the public who are eager to explore the benefits of retrofitting their homes.
- Gain a closer look at Energy Performance Certificates and learn what the different bands (A through to G) mean for not only your home’s carbon footprint, but wallet too
- Discover which measures; from insulation and building fabric improvements towards Solar PV and heat pump technologies, are most effective for your property
Recent analysis of trends in energy consumption through a cross section of homes across our community, highlight some interesting points for us to consider as a community,
- 67% of surveyed homes currently sit across the C and D bands along the EPC scale, with one fifth of respondents falling within the E band; homes that will need greater intervention to lower running costs
- Locally gathered EPC data shows great variation in energy efficiency by property type, with semi-detached bungalows in the area (drawing an average of 270 kWh/m²) found to be more energy intensive than detached homes (averaging 180 kWh/m²)
- The project has already identified only 4 households surveyed as high performers; homes that have successfully retrofitted their heating systems to reduce their carbon emissions to very low levels, exporting energy back to the national grid.
- While upfront cost remains a primary concern among 57% of those surveyed across our community, a lack of knowledge and guidance was cited at 34%, as a secondary barrier. This workshop aims to bridge that gap by providing clear, practical guidance for homeowners.
